Mount Everest 100 years later!

On October 25, 1921, the first reconnaissance expedition of the Mount Everest was completed.

The mountain, located between Nepal and Tibet, is the highest elevation on Earth, standing 30,000 feet tall — or almost 9,000 meters. The biggest challenge to climb that mountain (besides being freaking cold) is the negative effects that high altitute has in the human body. Climbers can develop HAPE (high altitude pulmonary edema) or HACE (high altitude cerebral edema), both of which are potentially fatal. From the Tibetan name Qomolangma (‘Holy Mother”), it received the name we know today to honor English surveyor in India George Everest.
