24 mar Light, Lightbulb and Spotlight
One must know the difference between light (sun), a lightbulb (Thomas Edison invention), and a lamp (apparatus). The sun gives us natural light, the lightbulb gives us artificial light powered by electricity and you will need to screw a lightbulb into many types of lamps: desk lamp, floor lamp, wall lamp and so on. Now, a lamp that throws light in one small specific area (e.g. artist onstage) is called spot, because a spot is a small area: a dalmatian is a white dog with many black spots; if you can spot a friend in a football game, he or she is located in a small area among so many others. And if you are in the spotlight, you are in big evidence, every- body is looking at you, and that may be good… or not.
